June 2015 Theme & Editor's Note: Get Me Bodied

Hello June! We are halfway through the year and I hope that you are rocking and rolling. Though this issue was late coming out, it was worth it. I take pride in putting forth quality work and have been working really hard, as of late, to improve the quality of my work and this site. Instead of just getting the cover out, I wanted to make sure that the quality wasn't compromised.

This month's theme, Get Me Bodied, is about fitness and having a fit quality of life. A few months ago, I did a search for women's fitness blogs and not much came up for women of color. The ones that I did find had been abandoned by their authors after only a few posts from a year ago or more. That hit something inside of me. I understand that we can gain inspiration from anyone but living in a country that tells us repeatedly that we're nothing, undesirable, unworthy and fat & unhealthy; YES, I do want to see people who look like me and aren't those things. I don't believe that we are any of those things about us and I believe that obesity and poor health is an AMERICAN thing, not just a woman of color thing. I know fit and sound minded women of color exist but most of them don't have blogs or if they do, they are not easy to find. I hope to see more of us blogging again but many you can find on mediums like Instagram, so I decided to root them out and share our top picks. Their journeys and pictures will inspire you and these are women not just "doing it for the 'gram". They really are enthusiasts for living fit and healthy lives so much so that many of them have made it their life's work and/or career.

I wanted this month to feature women who look like us and have positive and active lives like us, like our cover girl, Kinya Harte. She's an amazing, urbanista balancing work and life and you'll get to learn more about her and her health journey. You don't have to be a celebrity, Olympian or a fitness competitor or live in the gym to be fit. It's not just about perfectly toned bodies, gym selfies and cute workout clothes (although, hey, we do like and enjoy that stuff). Being fit is a lifestyle and a belief more than anything. With fit minds and fit bodies, let's have fun this month!

Be blessed and stay naturally fly,
