You asked and I'm answering. I did a review recently on the Kinky Curly Knot Today and some of you asked for me to share some cheaper alternatives. So i am going to share with you 3 of my picks that have produced results very similar, if not the same results, to the Knot Today for me and might for you too:
* Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk
This can be used as a leave in, detangler, moisturizer or all 3!
$10 for 8 fl. oz
Where to Buy: Target http://www.target.com/ and now Walgreens! http://www.walgreens.com/
* Yes to Carrots Conditioner
While it is marketed as a rinse out conditioner, I had nice results when I used it as a leave in. The key for me when using it like this was to use very little, less is more with this product, and seal with an oil/oil mix.
$10 for 16 fl. oz
Where to Buy: Target http://www.target.com/, Walgreens: http://www.walgreens.com/, some have found them in Ross and Marshalls.....
* Aloe vera gel and oil (of your choice. I like grapeseed oil)
This homemade recipe works great as a leave in for me. My hair air dries soft and "sheeny".
Cost varies but are similar to the prices of the above mentioned products and this lasts a while too. Again, a little goes a long way.
Where to Buy: Get your oil/s from the grocery store for cheap. You can get a big bottle of olive oil for $6 or less. I get my aloe vera gel (the brand pictured on JASON 99% aloe vera gel) from Vitamin Shoppe. You can also find aloe vera gel from health food stores and supplement stores like Whole Foods and GNC.
In my experiences, all these alternatives perform best when applied to hair that is damp but I encourage you to try my picks however many ways you like b/c it might work for you differently. With all of these, a little goes a long way! So start off with a little and use more if you need to.`
I understand many of you are on a smaller budget than others. Shoot my budget's pretty tight these days too but I still encourage you to support businesses owned by your people when you can. Like I stated before, I probably won't buy this product all the time but may do so occasionally to show my support to someone who's taken the time to make a product with my hair texture in mind.
Stay naturally fly chicas!
