Mixtress Chronicles: Hair Conditioner Recipes

If you've followed the site for a while, then you know that I don't use traditional conditioner anymore. I thoroughly enjoy making my own conditioning mixes. Here are some easy recipes that I make with ingredients from my kitchen and always deliver results nothing short of fabulous. They can be used as pre-poos if that's your thing or your main conditioning treatments, which is how I use them.

My Ghee Conditioner Recipe: This mix leaves my hair with incredible softness, shine/sheen, smooth strands, and great slip.

- 1-2Tbsp Ghee
- Enough Oil of choice (I like EVOO or castor oil) to the the Ghee till it's creamy
- 1 Tsp Honey (alternatives: agave nectar or molasses)
- a few drops of your favorite essential oil (I like tangerine or lavendar) for fragrance: ghee
can have your hair smelling like buttered, movie theater popcorn. Lol.

Directions: Lightly mist hair/sections with water first then apply mixture to hair in sections. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, rinse and continue on with your washing routine.

My Moisturizing Light Protein Recipe: Leaves my hair feeling so luscious, intensely moisturized and fortified.

- 4 Tbsp Mayonnaise or Yogurt
- 1 Tbsp Oil of choice (I like EVOO or castor oil)
- 1 Tsp Honey (alternatives: agave nectar or molasses)

Directions: Lightly mist hair/sections with water first then apply mixture to hair in sections. Leave on for 15 minutes, rinse and continue on with your washing routine.

My Favorite Conditioner Recipe: Great shine/sheen and smooth strands!

- Coconut oil
- Honey (alternative: agave nectar or molasses)

Directions: Lightly mist hair/sections with water first then apply mixture to hair in sections. Leave on for 15 minutes, rinse and continue on with your washing routine.

My Aloe Vera Conditioner Recipe: Leaves my hair with good moisture and smooth strands.
- 1-2 cups Aloe vera gel
- 1 Tbsp Oil of choice (for this mix I like coconut or castor oil)
- 1 Tsp Honey (alternative: agave nectar or molasses)

Optional and additional ingredients you can add to any of these mixes:

Hey Kisha: Ghee is clarified butter. You can buy it at any Indian or even West Indian grocery store, a lot of health food stores carry it, or you can make it yourself. So it's butter and it leaves my hair feeling like it too!

I find that it's hard to find 100% pure aloe vera gel unless you make it yourself probably b/c it may spoil fast. This is just a guess as to why you may have a hard time purchasing 100% pure. J/A/S/O/N has 97% I think it is and I use that quite a bit. Hope this helps!

Chrissystina: You know I share your excitement! I luuuuv mixing stuff up. Shealoe is tha bomb dot com, man. I slept on that stuff for so long!

I love the aloe vera conditioner! I make it with aloe vera gel and castor oil and use it for finger detangling.
